edUI2009 Workshop – Beyond Blah Blah: Creating Great Content for the Web
David Poteet from NewCity is facilitating a session on creating great content for the web. This workshop is filled with ideas; it is a “best of” for web professionals seeking better content for their sites. Here are a few of the gems:
- David Poteet, “Often we throw way too much content at people before they are ready for it.” (Visitor: I’m scanning right now; just give me the language that helps me distinguish options; I’ll read the complete detail later, after I make a choice.)
- Visitors to your site have one thing in common – animal instinct. Find out more about writing for the scent of information (Jared M. Spool, Christine Perfetti, and David Brittan).
- People do read! In fact, 63% of online stories are read to completion (Poynter Institute EyeTrack 2007 Study).
- Give sensory details and substantive facts; let them come to their own conclusions. Roy Williams (The Wizard of Ads), “You must cause people to realize the truth.”
